Each year on May 15, the vibrant town of Gumaca, Quezon bursts into color and festivity as it celebrates the Pahiyas Festival, a cultural tradition held in honor of San Isidro Labrador, the patron saint of farmers. Known for its elaborate decorations made of rice, vegetables, kiping (rice wafers), and other agricultural products, the Pahiyas Festival has become one of the most popular and anticipated events in the region.
This year, our school was proud and honored to take part in the celebration. As a way to show our support and appreciation for our local heritage, we actively participated in various activities throughout the day. Our students showcased their talents through live performances, including cultural dances and musical presentations that highlighted the richness of Filipino traditions. Dressed in colorful costumes inspired by local folklore and farming life, the performers brought life and energy to the streets of Gumaca.
Our involvement not only served as a creative expression but also as a way to engage the youth in preserving our cultural identity. The Pahiyas Festival is more than just a visual spectacle—it is a reflection of the community’s unity, gratitude for bountiful harvests, and the enduring spirit of Filipino festivity.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the local government and organizers of the Pahiyas Festival for allowing us to be part of this meaningful celebration. It was a memorable day for our students and faculty, and we look forward to joining again in the years to come.
